The Research Institute of Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive research institution integrating the technology development, process design, material research and performance evaluation of products, standard management and information technology support as a whole, it is mainly engaged in development and design of products such as complete sets of land oil drilling and workover rigs, offshore drilling platform module drilling rigs, deck and subsea equipment, oil engineering pumps, wellhead equipment, drilling and production tools and so on, and also be responsible for the preparation and revision of standards the oil drilling and production equipment, and the information management, technical support and other work of Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co., Ltd..

The Institute consists of the Oil and Gas Drilling Rig Research Institute, the Drilling Rig Steel Structure Research Institute, the Drilling and Production Equipment Research Institute, the Oil Engineering Pump Research Institute, the Automatic Control Research Institute, the Machining Process Research Institute, the Riveting Process Research Institute, the Assembly Test Process Research Institute, the Drilling Equipment and Material Research Institute, the Standardization Research Institute, the Information Center, the Integrated Office and Chengdu Branch of the Institute (including the Wellhead Equipment Research Institute, the Subsea Equipment Research Institute, the Deck Equipment Research Institute, the Special Vehicle Research Institute, the Control System Research Institute, the Drilling and Operation Tool Research Institute and the offices) and other institutions. Now, it has 330 staff and more than 20 experts, including the experts enjoying the special allowance by the State Council, the senior technical experts of China National Petroleum Corporation and the experts from Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co., Ltd.

At present, the Institute has the AutoCAD2012 2D and UGNX7.5 3D design software, ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran, Adams and other large analysis software and the PDM product data management and CAPP computer process aided design software, more than 380 sets of computer and auxiliary equipment with excellent performance and more than 30 sets of key testing equipment, has successively and independently designed and developed 9 levels and 4 driving types of land drilling rigs, arctic drilling rigs and complete sets of offshore drilling rigs ranging from 1,000 m to 12,000 m, as well as 500-3000 HP series mud pumps, marine risers, offshore platform cranes and other products. Among them, the 12,000 m drilling rig, the 9,000m four-single stand drilling rig, the automatic integrated control rig, the desert fast-moving rig, the drilling equipment on the 300-foot jack-up offshore drilling platform, the marine risers, subsea wellheads and other new products and new technologies have filled the domestic gap and formed a batch of special technologies with independent intellectual property rights.

With the Research Institute as the main body, Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co., Ltd. has undertaken the construction and operation of the only national engineering center in China's drilling equipment industry -- National Engineering Research Center for Oil & Gas Drilling Equipment. In this process, the research and development level and the research and development capabilities of the Research Institute are bound to be greatly improved. Additionally, the Research Institute of Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co., Ltd. is also the responsible unit of the Secretariat of the two Standardization Departments of Oil Drilling Rigs and Offshore Drilling and Production Equipment of National Technical Committee for Standardization of Oil Drilling and Production Equipment and Tools.

While carrying out technical research and development and support to China's petroleum industry, the Research Institute of Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co., Ltd. has also actively carried out academic exchanges and cooperation, has successively set up cooperative research institutions such as the Petroleum Equipment Research Center, the Petroleum Machinery Technology Research Institute and so on with Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an Shiyou University and other institutions, and has established the mechanical engineering postdoctoral research station, the work base of Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co., Ltd. and the like with Southwest Petroleum University.
